Deputy Climbs Onto Balcony To Rescue Immobilized Dewey Resident

On Sunday, January 28, 2018, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to the 11800 block of E Arabian Lane in Dewey, for a welfare check on a 75-year-old resident. The reporting parties were concerned because he failed to show up for church that morning.

A neighbor told the arriving deputy the resident had not been seen since Thursday. When the deputy checked the lower level of the condo, he was unable to see anyone. Neighbors suggested that if the deputy could access the balcony, he might be able to view the condo’s upstairs interior. So, from an adjoining balcony, the deputy was able to climb around a dividing wall and onto the balcony of the concerned location. Looking through the door blinds, the deputy saw a man lying on a couch, seemingly immobilized. After knocking several times, there was no response except for some slight arm movement.

Due to the emergency medical concern, the deputy forced open the balcony doors and eventually contacted the resident who was very disoriented and not able to speak.

EMS personnel were called, they treated the man on scene before transporting him to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center. It is possible the resident had suffered a stroke and he remains hospitalized.
