TPD Conducts Homicide Investigation In Midtown

On Friday February 2, 2018, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment complex located at 1635 N. Craycroft Rd. Upon arrival, they located an adult male with obvious stab wounds and summoned paramedics. Members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to the scene and treated the male. He was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening-injuries. The male later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He has been identified as 62-year-old Mario Urena. Next of kin have been notified.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Domestic Violence Unit and Homicide Unit responded to the scene and furthered the investigation. They learned Mr. Urena lived at the apartment with his sister, identified as 60-year-old Martha Parra. In the evening, Mr. Urena and Ms. Parra had an argument and Ms. Parra obtained a knife.

Later, the argument continued and escalated into a physical altercation. Ms. Parra then stabbed Mr. Urena. She called 911 and remained on scene. She was detained by officers without incident. Ms. Parra was arrested for Domestic Violence – Manslaughter and transported and booked into the Pima County Jail. Her booking photograph has been provided.
