At approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, Tempe Police arrested 2 mothers, Tahnee Gonzales and Elizabeth Dauenhauer, and charged them with third-degree burglary from a Tempe Mosque. Police say they are also considering hate crime charges for the women.
The two were captured on video with children at the Mosque. The video shows the women and children entering the Mosque’s courtyard, taking fliers off the bulletin board and pamphlets out of a kiosk. The women called the material “propaganda” and “an example of the Muslim community destroying America.”
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO Jonathan Greenblatt called on law enforcement to fully investigate their conduct and take any appropriate action.
“Watching these videos is extremely disturbing and ugly on so many levels. It’s bad enough that these individuals felt emboldened to go to this mosque and threaten the security of those peacefully practicing their religion. But to involve young children and to indoctrinate them with their hate is abhorrent,” said Greenblatt. “ADL stands with our brothers and sisters in the Muslim community and condemns this intolerable behavior. We have contacted Facebook and asked the company to make sure the videos are taken down.”
