DES Security Guard Arrested For Shooting At Tucson DES Building

Mahmood Almuwali, was arrested today for Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon (Class 2 Felony) and Discharging a Firearm within the City Limits ( Class 6 Felony)

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Aggravated Assault Unit have continued their investigation into the shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon at the Department of Economic Security Building (1455 S. Alvernon).The security guard, identified as 30-year-old Mahmood Almuwali, was arrested today for Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon (Class 2 Felony) and Discharging a Firearm within the City Limits ( Class 6 Felony)

Detectives conducted interviews and collected evidence. They learned an adult male client was inside the building and became upset with staff and raised his voice. Staff requested the security officer to respond over. Almuwali told the client to leave and escorted him outside.The male went to his vehicle and Almuwali followed. As the client attempted to drive away Almuwali discharged his firearm. Multiple people (including children) had been at complex and 911 was called. The client continued to drive away and went to a nearby apartment complex and called 911. No one was reported injured.

Almuwali was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail. Detectives are asking anyone that witnessed the incident that did not speak to police can provide information through 88-CRIME. The investigation is ongoing.
