Tucson Police Investigate Homicide On Southwest Side

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a fatal shooting of 36-year-old Roberto Varela on Tucson’s Southwest Side.

On April 6, 2018, at approximately 1:14 a.m., Tucson Police officers responded to reports of shots heard in the area of W. 20th St. and S. Farmington Rd. Upon arrival, they located Varela inside a maroon 2007 Hyundai coupe with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering aid and summoned paramedics. Members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the male to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries.

On April 8, 2018, Varela succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Detectives learned a black coupe was seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting. Neither the vehicle, nor suspects have been identified at this time.
