Geronimo Saves the Day

On Sunday April 22, 2018 at approximately 7:45 am, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a male subject who advised that he was being kidnapped at gunpoint.

The call was triangulated and a location near Willcox was identified as the call origination. The caller was able to provide basic details about the vehicle he was in which led Deputies to observe a similar vehicle at a gas station off of Interstate 10 near Willcox.

Sheriffs Deputies were attempting to approach the vehicle when it left the area at a high rate of speed gaining access to westbound Interstate 10. Arizona Department of Public Safety Troopers and Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were able to get a license plate on the vehicle which was previously reported stolen.

The driver continued on Interstate 10 at a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude pursuing law enforcement officers, and making a determination of the best option to secure public safety, law enforcement dropped back near Texas Canyon and allowed the suspect vehicle to continue on the interstate.

Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Geronimo air support assumed control over the pursuit at Texas Canyon which provided law enforcement units in the Benson area to be aware of the exact location and movement of the suspect vehicle, which ultimately turned into the Loves’ Truck Stop on Interstate 10 and State Highway 90.

The suspect vehicle pulled into the parking lot assuming that he was no longer being chased, when undercover Arizona Department of Public Safety Troopers and marked Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputies surrounded the vehicle and took the driver, and sole occupant, into custody.

It was determined that the suspect, 34 year old Brandon Williams of Salome Arizona, had stolen his mothers vehicle and called the Sheriff’s Office for an unknown reason.

Williams was transported to the Cochise County Jail and booked on charges of Motor Vehicle Theft, Felony Flight from law enforcement officers, and Endangerment.
