Early Saturday morning on April 28, 2018, shortly before 1:00 a.m., Tucson Police officers responded to an unknown trouble call at an apartment complex located at 811 E. Prince Rd. The 911 operator could hear arguing and the female caller requested police assistance.

The officers then responded to the apartment and heard a woman yelling inside. They made contact with a female and she exited the apartment at the officer’s request. A male was located inside the apartment and officers also had him exit the apartment. As the male was being detained, another male appeared from inside the apartment. A confrontation occurred between the officers and that male and two officers discharged their weapons, striking the male. The male was transported to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Office of Professional Standards is conducting a separate and parallel administrative investigation to examine the actions of department personnel.

The officers who discharged their firearms were identified as Sergeant David Hill, an almost 14-year veteran of the Tucson Police Department (22 years total in law enforcement) and Officer Melissa Ayun, a 12.5-year veteran of the Tucson Police Department.
