Yuma Police Traffic Stop Turns Drug Bust

Yuma traffic violation stop becomes Drug possession arrest.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at approximately 2:02 p.m., officers with the Yuma Police Department (YPD) conducted a traffic stop of David Lee Kendell for a traffic violation in the 2400 block of Araby Road on a Toyota sedan.  During the course of the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of narcotics.

Investigators with the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force (YCNTF)—which is a multi-agency task force comprised of officers and agents from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, the Yuma Police Department, the Somerton Police Department, the U.S. Border Patrol, and the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations—responded and assisted with the narcotics investigation.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was found to be in possession of approximately 56.9 grams of methamphetamine (with an approximate street value of $2,276.00); approximately 12.6 grams of cocaine (with an approximate street value of $650.00); approximately 2.2 grams of heroin (with an approximate street value of $110.00); approximately 21.2 grams of marijuana (with an approximate street value of $424.00); 13 narcotic pills identified as Oxycodone (with an approximate street value of $65.00); 14 pills identified as Lorazepam (with an approximate street value of $70.00); items consistent with narcotic sales; and a loaded handgun.

The occupant of the vehicle, David Lee Kendell, 53, of Yuma, was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for transportation of a narcotic, possession of a narcotic for sale, possession of a narcotic, transportation of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug for sale, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, misconduct involving weapons, and possession of a weapon by a prohibited possessor.
