Sight of May 17, 2013 Stabbing homicide

Over the years, Tucson Police detectives continued their investigation into the murder of 22-year-old Erick Bridges that occurred in May 2013.

Tucson Police Department’s Cold Case Homicide Unit resubmitted items of evidence from the case for forensic testing. A resubmitted fingerprint collected from the crime scene was matched to an individual by the name of Matthew Montano.

When attempting to locate Montano, detectives learned that he died in 2014, after taking his own life. Montano was 18-years-old at the time of his death. DNA from Montano was compared to blood evidence collected from the homicide scene. The comparison confirmed Montano’s involvement in the murder.

Based on results of the forensic evidence, detectives have now closed this case. Erick Bridges’ next of kin were notified of the findings.
