Nogales CBP Officers Seize $1.13M In Hard Drugs

TUCSON, Ariz. –U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales apprehended three U.S. citizens involved in connection with separate failed attempts to smuggle almost 184 pounds of heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine into the United States over the weekend.

Officers working at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing referred a 29-year-old Nogales, Arizona woman for further inspection of her Ford SUV Friday morning. A CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to a scent that it was trained to detect, resulting in drugs being located near the gas tank. The inspection led to the discovery of nearly 61 pounds of cocaine, worth more than $685,000.

Saturday evening, officers at the Mariposa Crossing referred an 18-year-old Rio Rico, Arizona man for further inspection of his Ford Mustang. A canine alert led officers to discover more than 118 pounds of meth, worth almost $355,000 within the rear quarter panels.

A few hours earlier, officers at the Morley Pedestrian Crossing referred a 29-year-old Tucson woman for additional questioning. A canine alert led officers to find more than 5 pounds of heroin wrapped around waist. The drugs are valued at nearly $90,000.
