Fire On Highway 80 Sparked By Cardboard Box

On Wednesday May 16, 2018 at approximately 1:45 p.m. several reports were received by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office about a brush fire on and just beside the guardrail near mile post 333 on Highway 80.

Several law enforcement vehicles stopped at the scene and attempted to contain the blaze with fire extinguishers while two motorists also assisted with water and shovels.

Bisbee Fire Department arrived and they were able to contain and extinguish the blaze in about 45 minutes.

The initial report indicated that a pick-up truck had a cardboard box fly from under the bed which was already on fire possibly from a heated muffler or other part of the truck. The box went over the guardrail which started the blaze.
