Chandler Police Communications Staffer Killed In Off-duty Traffic Collision

On June 10, 2018, at 10:36 AM, Chandler Police Emergency Call Taker Cathy Coppes was killed in a vehicle collision on U.S 89 mile post 432, approximately 20 miles north of Flagstaff. Ms. Coppes was operating a motorcycle and was traveling southbound.

A vehicle traveling northbound crossed the center line and struck Cathy head on.

Ms. Coppes was killed on impact.

According to Detective Seth Tyler, Cathy started her career with the Chandler Police Department in April 2002. She was a valued member of the Communications Staff and was instrumental in training and developing new employees.

Ms. Coppes was 58-years-old and is survived by her husband.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the collision.
