Border Patrol Agents Seize Meth Hidden In Gas Tank

On Sunday, Nogales Border Patrol agents arrested a U.S. citizen after finding more than 27 pounds of methamphetamine inside his vehicle’s gas tank at the Interstate 19 Immigration Checkpoint.

Shortly after 8 a.m., a 31-year-old Tucson man in a Ford Focus was referred to secondary inspection after a U.S. Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor it is trained to detect. As a result, agents discovered 25 packages of methamphetamine in vacuum-sealed packages within the fuel tank.

Agents seized the car and drugs, worth in excess of $86,000. The driver was arrested on drug smuggling charges and will remain in custody pending a disposition in his case.
