Newly Released Convict Kills Tucson Girlfriend

David James Bohart is in custody in connection with the murder of 49-year-old Marika L. Jones, according to Tucson Police.

On November 21, 2018, just after 3:00 p.m., the Tucson Police Department received a call from Bohart, who identified himself as an attorney from out of state. He claimed that he had information about a person who may be seriously injured or deceased at a residence in the 5700 block of East 24th Street. Officers responded to the residence and found the home unsecure. When officers entered, they located a deceased female, Ms. Jones, with obvious signs of sharp force trauma.

Officers reported to detectives that an unidentified male had called 911 on Monday (two days prior) to report that he had just been released from prison and had killed his girlfriend. He did not give a real name and said he did not know the exact address where the incident occurred. Officers worked that information, but were not able to locate anything on Monday. The area given by the unidentified male was the same area of the homicide they were currently working. During a search of the residence, detectives located a Department of Corrections file box belonging to Bohart. Detectives confirmed with the Department of Corrections that Bohart had just been released from prison on Monday and had failed to check into a court ordered treatment facility in Cottonwood, AZ. When he failed to show up for treatment, an Absconding Warrant was issued for his arrest.

On November 23, 2018, Bohart was located at a hotel in the 7000 block of South Tucson Boulevard and was taken into custody with the assistance of Tucson Police officers and members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Bohart was booked into the Pima County Jail on his warrant and one count of Second Degree Murder.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
