CBP Shuts Down San Ysidro Port of Entry, Agents, Migrants Clash

Residents along the Arizona Mexico border are uneasy tonight as Border Patrol agents and migrants clashed at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in the San Diego area on Sunday.

Agents were forced to shut down all northbound and southbound crossings for both pedestrians and vehicles at the San Ysidro port of entry at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning before a group of migrants breached the border wall.

Multiple planned demonstrations were planned by migrants and activists on both sides of the border, on Sunday. As the demonstrations on the Mexican side reached the border area, some members of the demonstration split off to head towards multiple locations along the border. Some attempted to enter the U.S. both directly east and west of the border crossing.

Some migrants attempted to illegally enter the U.S. through both the northbound and southbound vehicles lanes at the port of entry itself. Those persons were stopped and turned back to Mexico.

The last time Border Patrol agents were forced to used tear and pepper spray was in 2013. Agents used the defensive tactics when a group of migrants became violent and began throwing bottles, rocks and other projectiles at them.
