Southern Yavapai Fire Department Member Killed In ATV Accident

A member of the Southern Yavapai Fire Department, 61-year-old Peter Cannata, was killed on December 15 in an ATV accident.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, on December 15, just before 8:00 p.m., Mr. Cannata left a private residence on Flint Road in Wilhoit after attending a holiday gathering for the Southern Yavapai Fire Department.

Mr. Cannata told friends he would heading home. About 10 minutes later, a passerby found Mr. Cannata at the intersection of Flint Drive and Donegal Road following a collision and he appeared deceased.

Deputies determined that Mr. Cannata was travelling south on Flint Drive and entered the intersection of Donegal Road where the dirt meets pavement. Based on evidence at the scene, it appeared the Polaris 850 ATV went sideways losing traction for some unknown reason. The vehicle then rolled at least once coming to rest on top of Mr. Cannata who suffered severe head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
