The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Department of Defense in an initiative that promotes civilian job training available for transitioning military service members.
Service members meeting specific qualifications can participate in the DoD Skillbridge Program.
SkillBridge helps link military occupations to civilian jobs and active-duty troops can receive entry-level utility training in their last six months before separation.
“Transitioning out of military service is hard. Veterans can easily fail without a stable foundation and employment plays a huge role in their success,” said Sheriff Mark Lamb, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
“The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is excited about this new partnership and sees this program as a huge win for the department and our veterans.”
“This announcement is just the latest example of how leveraging our new SkillBridge authority can help in easing the transition of our service members to civilian life — while delivering real value to the American economy,” said Frank C. DiGiovanni, DoD’s director of force readiness and training.
According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), to qualify, the 8 to 12 week training must lead to a “high probability” of employment and must be provided at little or no cost to service members. PCSO is looking to place participating service members in academy positions for sworn law enforcement and detention officers. The service members remain paid and insured by the DoD, while PCSO maintains control authority and the right to select.
