78-Year-Old Used As Heroin Smuggling Body Carrier

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered heroin wrapped around the torso of a 78-year-old male passenger on Thursday evening at the Port of San Luis.

Officers arrested the man, a Mexican national authorized to reside in the United States, and the 38 year-old female driver when the duo attempted to enter the U.S. with more than $250,000 worth of heroin.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, “officers referred the driver of a Nissan SUV for a secondary inspection after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to an odor it is trained to detect coming from within the vehicle.”

While processing the woman, identified as a U.S. citizen from San Diego, officers learned of an active felony warrant for her arrest in Riverside, California, on first-degree robbery charges.
