toys from the local toy drive were stolen in a break in at the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department.

From the Sheriff’s Office:

“The initial investigation revealed that the location of the occurrence was through a broken window at the fire house and potential items of evidence were cleaned up and disposed of without contacting law enforcement. The first report received about this crime was to the Sheriff’s Office through the County School Superintendent in an effort to help with community outreach for replacement of the stolen toys.

There has been an enormous outpouring of community support throughout Cochise County as a result of the request of Superintendent Jacqui Clay to help get the party scheduled for tomorrow night for the Bowie children to be a success. This event is hosting at least 75 children from kindergarten through twelfth grades who are anticipating a gift from the party.”

The Bowie Fire Department has been able to replace all of the stolen items and more.

Sheriff Mark Dannels said, “We have a duty to investigate all criminal activity within our jurisdiction, and we will do so with the intent of bringing any and all suspect(s) in this case to justice. We witness the good in people who give more in trying times like this, specifically during the holiday season, and we will do our best to solve this crime.”
