Tucson Man Arrested For November Homicide

Augustino Martinez, age 29, was arrested on January 11, 2019 in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Bernardo Marin on November 23, 2018.

Tucson Police detectives arrested Martinez at the Pima County Jail where he was being held on unrelated charges. Detectives charged Martinez with one count of First Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault w/a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Assault w/Serious Physical Injury.

According to Tucson Police, the shooting does not appear to be gang motivated.

On November 23, 2018, just after 4:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers were dispatched to 5118 South 12th Avenue for multiple reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Bernardo Marin in the parking lot with obvious signs of gunshot trauma.

Witnesses gave 911 operators the description of a vehicle that fled the scene after the shooting. As additional officers were responding, they located the vehicle driving in a nearby neighborhood. When officers stopped the vehicle, they learned the adult male driver had multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives with the Tucson Police Gang Unit, Homicide Unit and Aggravated Assault responded to the scene to continue the investigation. After speaking with witnesses, they were able to determine that the two gunshot victims were together in the parking lot when they were involved in a verbal altercation with at least two other males. During the altercation, gunshots were fired and the two victims were struck.
