TUCSON —  A  motorcyclist was killed Saturday night in a head-on collision with a passenger car in the vicinity  of East Grant Road and North Alvernon Way.

Witnesses at the scene were performing CPR on the motorcyclist when first responders from the Tucson Police Department and Tucson Fire arrived on the scene  after 8:30 p.m., said a release from the police.

The motorcyclist was immediately transported to Banner University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The motorcyclist was westbound on Grant Road and made a right turn on to Algernon Way. As he began to travel northbound, he moved into the media lane. At the same time, a southbound passenger car was making a left turn across Alvernon at a break in the median, the police said, basing their conclusion on witness reports and roadway evidence.

When the vehicles collided the motorcyclist was thrown from his motorcycle.

The driver of the  car remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. It was determined he was not impaired and his speed did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing. No citations have been issued.

Police are withholding the victim’s name until his next of kin has been notified.
