Cottonwood man commits suicide in Cottonwood Public Safety building

Cottonwood, AZ, February — An elderly Cottonwood man committed suicide on Tuesday at the Cottonwood Public Safety building.

According to Cottonwood Police, at approximately 1:45, 74 year-old Cottonwood resident, Lloyd Wingfield, shot himself one time in the head with a handgun while in the lobby of the Cottonwood Public Safety building located at 199 S. 6th Street.

Cottonwood Police report that a family member contacted Cottonwood Police earlier in the day to check on Wingfield because they were concerned he was suicidal. Officers arrived at his residence but contact was not made. Officers subsequently left the residence.

Later in the day Wingfield came to the Cottonwood Public Safety building where he entered the main lobby area, shot himself in the head and was later pronounced deceased at the Verde Valley Medical Center Emergency Department.
