Border Patrol agents arrest previously deported violent felon

NOGALES —  Rene Muñoz Renteria, 37, a previously deported Mexican national, with a history of convictions and imprisonments for violent crimes, was arrested Wednesday night in Nogales.

After Muñoz Renteria entered the country illegally, processing agents found his extensive criminal history included a 2003 conviction for attempted sexual assault in Phoenix, for which he served five years in prison, said a release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Muñoz, who also has convictions for kidnapping and possession of fraudulent documents, will remain in federal custody to face prosecution on felony immigration charges.
