1 Suspect Killed After Firing At DPS Officer, 1 Suspect Escaped

Buckeye, Arizona — A Phoenix man, Jose German, is dead after he allegedly shot at an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper on Saturday.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a trooper driving a marked patrol vehicle attempted to stop a Chrysler minivan driven by German, for speeding just north of Interstate 10 on Jackrabbit Trail. German failed to yield to the trooper’s emergency lights and siren and a pursuit ensued.

While fleeing from the trooper on Jackrabbit Trail, German failed to negotiate a turn at Lewis Avenue and rolled his vehicle onto its side. German and another unidentified man climbed out of the vehicle, and German produced a handgun and fired it at the trooper. The trooper returned fire.

The trooper suffered a minor injury and was not hospitalized.
