Lukeville CBP Officers Nab Phoenix Man For Fentanyl Smuggling Attempt

TUCSON, Ariz. – A Phoenix man was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Lukeville on Monday after he was caught trying to smuggle fentanyl.

The 25-year-old man was referred for a secondary inspection of his Honda sedan as he applied to enter the United States from Mexico Monday afternoon. A drug-sniffing dog led officers to the drugs underneath the vehicle’s hood hidden in the air intake and cabin filter box.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the drugs were identified as nearly one and half pounds of suspected fentanyl, worth more than $42,000.

Officers arrested the subject and turned him over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, while the drugs and the vehicle were seized.
