Mexican woman busted crossing border with meth, fentanyl in car battery

SAN LUIS – A 19-year-old woman from San Luis, Sonora, was arrested Monday morning after five pounds of methamphetamine and suspected fentanyl were found in the battery of her vehicle.

The 19-year-old woman was attempting to smuggle the drugs through the Port of San Luis, Ariz., said a U.S. Customs and Border Protection release.

After the woman was referred for additional inspection, a narcotics detection K-9 alerted to a scent from under the hood of her Toyota sedan. A search led to the discovery of packages that were inside of the vehicle’s battery.

The drugs were identified as nearly three pounds of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $8,900 as well as more than two pounds of suspected fentanyl pills, worth nearly $32,000.
