A large group of Central Americans were apprehended after they illegally entered the country west of Lukeville on Monday morning.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the group consisting of 135 individuals, made up of mostly family units, surrendered to U.S. Border Patrol agents in the same area as previous large groups.

Group members were spread out before illegally entering in multiple locations throughout the same remote stretch of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument west of the Port of Lukeville.

Because resources had to be reallocated to the area to tend to the illegal aliens, two Border Patrol checkpoints on State Route 85 to be temporarily closed.
