Maricopa County Officials Investigating TB Case At Scottsdale Shea Facility

PHOENIX — Officials with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health are investigating a possible case of Tuberculosis (TB) at HonorHealth’s Scottsdale Shea facility.

“We have not been able to confirm the diagnosis, but because TB cannot be ruled out, we are recommending that exposed patients at high risk be offered preventive treatment to protect them from severe disease,” Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, medical director for Disease Control for Maricopa County Department of Public Health said in a press release.

According to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, officials are acting out of an abundance of caution for patients that could be at risk. As a result, the Department is recommending that patients who have been exposed receive a TB evaluation and if appropriate, preventive treatment. The Department has reached out to all patients at risk and provided information and options for testing and accessing preventive treatment if deemed appropriate.

The Department reports that people who have spent time at Scottsdale Shea facility and have not heard from officials have not been determined to be at risk from this exposure and do not need to be tested for TB.
