Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Used in Telephone Scam

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a telephone scam in which the scammer invokes the name of the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday May 16, 2019 residents reported of multiple attempts by scammers using the Sheriff’s Office telephone number. The caller identifies himself as a Sheriff’s Deputy in the warrant division and claims that there is an outstanding warrant for the potential victim. The caller advises person to meet him at the Sierra Vista Sheriff’s Office after purchasing multiple gift cards in order to pay the fines.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public that they “WILL NOT call you to tell you about an outstanding warrant, we will come to you and provide our own uber services to bring you to us.”
