TUCSON – After entering the country illegally, a Mexican national was rescued by U.S. Border Patrol agents and helicopters crews from Arizona Department of Public Safety and Air and Marine Operations from a cliff in the Patagonia Mountains.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Sonoita Station Border Patrol agents were notified of a 911 distress call, from the man stranded on the cliff, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Border Patrol’s elite Search Trauma and Rescue Team was called in due to the dangerous location of the Mexican national. A multi-agency rescue was required to lift him to safety. As a result, DPS Ranger, and AMO helicopter crews were called to assist to survey the area for an extraction path.
A second DPS helicopter, equipped with specialized hoisting mechanism brought the man down to safety into the custody of medically trained Border Patrol agents.
The 32 year-old man, was found in good health condition and transported to the Sonoita Station for further processing.
