A 32-year-old man is in custody after using a rideshare service to take him to a QuikTrip convenience store where he grabbed a 12-pack of beer and failed to get away with the money he demanded from a clerk.

Davis arrived at the QuikTrip at 1995 N. Arizona Ave. in a rideshare vehicle at approximately 1:45 a.m. on May 30.

According to Chandler Police Detective Seth Tyler:

Davis wore a bandanna to cover his face, when he entered the QuikTrip with a note demanding money from the cash register. After grabbing a 12-pack of beer, Davis presented the note to the clerk.

Instead, the clerk called 911. Davis immediately left the store without any money and re-entered the back seat of the ride share vehicle Davis arrived in. Meanwhile a Chandler Police Officer, who was unaware of the unfolding incident, arrived at the Quick Trip for a break (The call had not been dispatched to patrol officers when the Officer arrived at the QT).

The store clerk quickly summoned the Officer to Davis’ location. As the Officer initiated contact with Davis in the backseat of the ride share vehicle, a second Chandler Police Officer arrived on-scene. As the two officers attempted to detain Davis and investigate the incident, Davis allegedly kicked one of the officers two times in the leg.

Davis was eventually taken into custody. Davis was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one count of Attempted Robbery, one count of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, and one count of Resisting Arrest. The officer assaulted in this incident did not require hospitalization.
