Yuma Border Patrol Agents Rescue Honduran Man Struggling To Swim

YUMA – A Honduran national struggling to stay afloat in the Salinity Canal after he illegally entered the United States on Saturday was rescued by a Border Patrol agent.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, at approximately 9:25 a.m., a Yuma Station agent encountered the 26-year-old man struggling to stay afloat in the Canal near County 9th Street. The agent deployed a rescue bag and pulled the man out of the water to safety.

The man immediately collapsed from exhaustion. Agents notified Emergency Medical Services after he began spitting up water. He was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further care. After he was cleared from the hospital the next day, he was charged for immigration violations.
