On the afternoon of August 7, 2019, Tucson Police officers responded to a call about a collision at W. Silverlake Rd. and I-10/Frontage Rd. that took the life of a Tucson woman, Margaret M. Ramirez.

Tucson Police detectives learned a grey 2019 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Ms. Ramirez, was traveling westbound on Silverlake Road and did not stop for the red light at the intersection. At that time, a grey 2019 Kia passenger vehicle was traveling northbound through the intersection on a green light. The Impala drove in front of the Kia and the two vehicles collided, according to Tucson Police.

The Kia came to rest on the sidewalk of the northwest corner. The Impala continued westbound after the collision, passing under the freeway, through the southbound lanes of S. Frontage Road and came to rest down an embankment on the far northwest corner of the intersection.

The adult female driver of the Kia was transported to Banner University Medical Center with minor injuries. A DUI officer responded and determined that the driver of the Kia was not impaired at the time of the collision.

The investigation is on-going and no charges or citations have been issued at this time, according to Tucson Police.
