Tucson Police are investigation a motorcycle collision that took the life of 49 year-old Leonard Gastelo.

According to the Tucson Police Department (TPD), on September 6, 2019, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers and Tucson Fire Medics were dispatched to the area of 2400 S. Mission Road in reference to a serious-injury collision involving a motorcycle ridden by Mr. Gastelo.

Upon arrival, Tucson Fire attempted to render aid to Mr. Gastelo; however, he passed away from his injuries at the scene.

Tucson Police detectives discovered that Mr. Gastelo was riding his 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound in the 2400 block of S. Mission Road. As Mission Road began to curve to the west, Mr. Gastelo lost control of his motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the raised concrete median in the center of the road. This caused Mr. Gastelo and his motorcycle to fall over and slide for several feet before coming to rest in the median lane of northbound Mission Road. Mr. Gastelo was not wearing a helmet.

According to TPD, interviews, in conjunction with roadway evidence, indicate that speed was a factor in the collision.
