TUCSON – Two Phoenix residents were arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested last week after they allegedly attempted to smuggle almost 64 pounds of methamphetamine through the Port of San Luis.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers referred a 22-year-old Phoenix man and his 23-year-old male passenger for additional inspection of a KIA sedan, as they attempted to enter the U.S. through the port at San Luis.

A CBP narcotics dog alerted to the smell of drugs coming from the vehicle’s gas tank. Officers discovered nearly 70 packages of meth weighing nearly 64 pounds, and worth more than an estimated value of $57,000.

Officers seized the drugs and vehicle.
