Drugs, Undeclared Currency Seized By CBP Officers

TUCSON – A Mexican national and a U.S. citizen were arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers for separate alleged attempts to smuggle drugs and cash through Arizona Ports of Entry.

A 39-year-old Naco, Arizona, man was referred for additional inspection of his Hyundai sedan, as he attempted to enter the U.S. through the Port of Naco on Wednesday morning. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of six packages containing more than $69,000 of unreported currency concealed in the firewall.

Later on Wednesday morning, CBP officers at the Port of Sasabe referred a 32-year-old Mexican man for an additional search of his Ford truck as he attempted to enter the U.S. A search led to the discovery of more than 30 packages determined to be more than 34 pounds of meth, worth more than $31,000 hidden within the dash.
