The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was hoping to return a veteran’s military documents to his family. After asking for the public’s help, Blas Gaitan’s son came forward this week to honor his father.

Mr. Gaitan was murdered in 2002, leaving behind a collection of patches and documents from his military service including a Bronze Star.

Blas Jr., who called the return of his dad’s belongings “overwhelming,” said he had no idea that his father was such a decorated soldier. He said that was going home to show his kids his dad’s treasurers and buy a “big shadow box.”
