TUCSON – Gustavo Gonzalez-Rodriguez, a child sexual predator, was arrested on Sunday by Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the State Route 83 immigration checkpoint near Sonoita.

The Mexican national illegally present in the United States was convicted by a California court in 2001 for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. He was subsequently required to register as a sex offender.

A record check of the 38-year-old Gonzalez-Rodriguez revealed an extensive criminal history that includes a 2016 felony conviction in South Carolina for assault and battery. He was sentenced to 10-years imprisonment for that crime.

A previously deported aggravated felon, Gonzalez will face federal prosecution for immigration violations.
