Tucson Man Arrested For Killing Sister

A Tucson man, Ismael Ortega, is in custody for the death of his sister, 43-year-old Mirna Ortega.

According to Tucson Police, on January 5, 2020, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a domestic violence incident at a residence in the 2400 block of S. Holly Strav. It was reported that Ismael had assaulted his sister with a knife.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Ismael inside of the home and he was immediately detained. Officers then located Mirna in the backyard with obvious signs of sharp force trauma. Mirna was unresponsive and officers began administering CPR until Tucson Fire personnel took over medical treatment. Mirna was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but passed away shortly after arrival.

Ismael was booked into the Pima County Jail on one count of First Degree Murder.
