COVID-19 Testing Up, Only Two Counties Report Deaths, ZIP Code Data Updated

PHOENIX – There were no reported deaths today in Maricopa County and only two counties, Pima (2) and Coconino (1) reported deaths.

Reported deaths in Pima County are among the highest in the state, however, victims were largely residents of a nursing home.

COVID-19 testing in Arizona is sporadic, but increasing with a current total of 54,500 performed as of Monday, April 20. As a result, the number of positive cases reported is increasing. However, today’s reported case count is the lowest percent increase to date.

In Maricopa County, 326 cases have been linked to residents of long-term care facilities. Of those, 28 percent (92 people) have been hospitalized and 13 percent (44 people) have died.

According to the Arizona Republic, a large share of Pima County’s deaths “appear to have been residents” of the Sapphire nursing home in south Tucson. The Sapphire nursing home is located in the 85714 ZIP code area, which has one of the highest case counts in the state.”
