Life Time Fitness Comes To Heel, Mountainside Fitness Stands Firm

Dr. Cara Christ and Governor Doug Ducey brief media on coronavirus response in March.

PHOENIX — On Friday, the Arizona Department of Health Services announced in a press release that Life Time Fitness has decided to come to heel and would come into compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order 2020-43.

At the same time, Mountainside Fitness let it be known that its locations will remain open at least until the company gets its day in court. The company is expected to be in court on Monday as they seek a stay of the governor’s order.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), Life Time Fitness will be closing the indoor fitness areas of all of their Arizona gyms.

On July 2, ADHS issued Emergency Measures in a Notice and Demand for Compliance letter when it was notified that certain fitness centers were not complying with Ducey’s order. These facilities include Mountainside Fitness, Scottsdale Shea; Life Time Fitness, Tempe; and Life Time Fitness, Camelback. The Notice and the Letter required compliance by noon today.

ADHS said in the press release that officials will move forward with seeking to enforce its Emergency Measures against Mountainside Fitness.
