Previously Deported Attempted Child Sex Abuser Arrested By BP Agents

TUCSON – An El Salvadorian man, Jose Chavez-Garcia, with a felony conviction for attempted sex crimes was arrested by Border Patrol agents on Monday evening.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), agents encountered Chavez-Garcia, who is a previously deported convicted felon, and two other people near the international border around 7 p.m.

Chavez-Garcia, age 28, was convicted of Attempted First-Degree Child Sex Abuse in Washington, D.C., in 2015. Chavez-Garcia was sentenced to thirty-three months in prison for the offense.

Chavez-Garcia remains in custody, pending prosecution for reentry of a previously removed felon, according to CBP. The other two people were expelled to Mexico under Title 42 authority.
