Tucson Police Investigating Shooting Death On East Side

TUCSON – Tucson Police are investigating the death of Robert C. Detwiler on the city’s east side.

According to the Tucson Police Department, on August 15, 2020, just before noon, officers were dispatched to a report of a gunshot victim at an apartment complex located at 8665 E. Speedway Blvd. Upon arrival, officers located Mr. Detwiler in the courtyard with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering aid and performed CPR. Tucson Fire arrived and transported the victim to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after arrival, Mr. Detwiler, age 33, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Homicide detectives learned that prior to the shooting, Mr. Detwiler had confronted the male suspect in the courtyard regarding a previous incident. The confrontation turned physical, shots were fired and Mr. Detwiler was subsequently struck. Witnesses said that the suspect fled the scene on foot after the shooting.

There are no suspects in custody at this time, and detectives are currently asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
