Body Of Missing New Mexico Hiker Found Off Telegraph Pass Trail

YUMA – The body of a missing hiker, George Wesley, was found on Sunday by members of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team with the help of U.S. Border Patrol.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing hiker in Telegraph Pass.

Deputies spoke to the reporting party who stated that Mr. Wesley, 54, of New Mexico, had last spoken with him earlier that morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. Mr. Wesley told the reporting party he was going to hike Telegraph Pass. The reporting party said Mr. Wesley should have returned around 12:00 p.m.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team, with the assistance of the United States Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine – Yuma Branch, seached late into the night for Mr. Wesley ending at approximately 12:00 a.m., due to low visibility.

On Sunday, August 16, 2020 at approximately 6:30 a.m., the search resumed. At approximately 07:12 a.m., the body of Mr. Wesley was found, approximately a mile from the main trail.
