Tucson Police Investigating Fatal Hit And Run

Tucson Police Department are looking for the driver of a vehicle that took the life of a 9-year-old boy and sent his 10-year-old brother to the hospital.

According to the Tucson Police Department, on September 30, 2020 just before 5:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to 8111 East Broadway Boulevard for a report of a serious injury hit and run collision. Officers found two young children were located in the roadway. The 9-year-old boy was pronounced deceased on scene. The 10-year-old boy, was treated on scene and then transported to a local hospital for further treatment. His injuries are serious but appear to be non-life-threatening.

Detectives were able to determine that a mother and her two young sons were crossing Broadway Boulevard from north to south while utilizing a marked crosswalk. A westbound vehicle traveling in the center lane did not stop for the family and collided with the two children. The crosswalk at that location is equipped with a H.A.W.K. light and detectives are still trying to determine if the light was activated at the time of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle slowed momentarily and then continued westbound from the scene leaving the children in the roadway. A front seat passenger was also seen in the vehicle. The mother of the two boys was not injured.

The vehicle involved is described as a light-colored, newer model, BMW SUV (possibly an X1, X3 or X5 model). The vehicle will have some front-end damage caused by the collision.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who has information about the collision to call 911 or 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
