Sierra Vista Man Charged In Multiple Burglaries Is Back In Custody On 2017 Warrant

A Sierra Vista man arrested last month on a 2017 arrest warrant will stand before a Cochise County judge Friday morning for a pretrial conference in four cases that see him sentenced to decades in prison if convicted at trial of all counts.

Victor James Olson was booked into the Cochise County jail Oct. 25 after being arrested by the Tucson Police Department on a nationwide warrant that had been issued in December 2017. He remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Olson, 45, was indicted by a county grand jury in November 2017 on 28 felonies involving burglary, identity theft, and weapons misconduct. He became the subject of the warrant after failing to appear for arraignment.

Once taken into custody, Olson was brought before Judge Laura Cardinal for arraignment. He is slated to stand trial early next year, but Cardinal has scheduled time during the upcoming Dec. 4 hearing to accept a plea deal if one is worked out.

The charges against Olson involve multiple burglaries allegedly committed at different times. As a result, Cardinal may choose to run any prison sentences consecutively, or back-to-back, which could add up to more than 30 years.

Public records show Olson served two state prison terms, the first for a 2010 drug conviction. The other stemmed from a 2014 identity theft case for which Olson was discharged from custody in November 2016.
