A Cottonwood resident, Zane Lodmell-Sarrett, is in custody after assaulting a Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to the Cottonwood Police Department, on Tuesday evening, December 8, at approximately 8:49 a.m., Cottonwood Police officers were dispatched to the area of State Route 260 and Fir Street, for a report of a vehicle collision. The collision involved two vehicles and there was an on-duty Yavapai County Sheriff deputy at the intersection when this collision took place.

As this deputy was assessing the involved parties’ injuries, one of the drivers, Lodmell-Sarrett, attempted to get back into his vehicle as if he was going to drive off. The deputy made contact with Lodmell-Sarrett, who then swung at the deputy, striking him in the face. The deputy had to use physical force to initiate the arrest of Lodmell-Sarrett.

Based on the collision investigation, it was discovered Lodmell-Sarrett failed to stop for a red traffic light and then turned left into oncoming traffic creating this collision. Lodmell-Sarrett had visible signs of intoxication along with an unopened bottle of Jose Cuervo, Tequila located inside his vehicle.

Lodmell-Sarrett was transported to the Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood for treatment of a head injury. He was the only occupant of his vehicle and the two occupants in the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

It was at the hospital that officers furthered the DUI investigation and found Lodmell-Sarrett’s blood alcohol concentration to be at .334%, which is four times the legal limit to be driving.

Lodmell-Sarrett was later booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (vehicle), Criminal Damage, Endangerment, four counts of DUI and a no bond warrant out of the Yavapai Superior Court for Probation Violation.

Lodmell-Sarrett is currently in custody on a paper bond of $25,000 and $8,000.
