Tucson Electric Power Company Customers To Get Hit With Rate Increase January 1

The Arizona Corporation Commission approved a rate increase for Tucson Electric Power Company customers at a Special Open Meeting on December 22, 2020. The new rates will become effective January 1, 2021.

The already struggling residents of the fifth poorest metropolitan area in the country, can expect to see an increase of approximately $5.20 with typical usage on TEP’s Basic pricing plan.

Low-income customers can expect to see a $3 increase in savings, according to the Commission.

The increase was sought to cover the Company’s costs of “flexible new generating resources, more resilient energy systems.” In other words, customers are picking up the costs of the Company’s “transition to a cleaner energy portfolio.”
