Peoria Police Investigating Fatal Collision Near 83rd Avenue And Cactus Road

Peoria Police officers are investigating a collision that left one person dead and two others injured near 83rd Avenue and Cactus Road early Sunday morning.

Peoria Police officers responded to the scene at around 2:30 a.m. on March 7, 2021 to an injury accident at the intersection of North 83rd Avenue and West Cactus Road. The accident involved a gray 4-door sedan and a blue sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Preliminary investigation shows that the blue SUV was traveling westbound on West Cactus Road approaching North 83rd Avenue with a green light. The gray sedan was traveling southbound on North 83rd Avenue approaching West Cactus Road and failed to stop at the red traffic light, striking the passenger side of the blue SUV.

The passenger of the blue SUV, 29-year-old Robert Garcia of Phoenix, sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away.

The driver of the blue SUV was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the gray sedan sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The Peoria Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit is still investigating this incident; however, speed and possible impairment of the driver of the gray sedan may be a factor in this crash.

No arrests have been made and no citations have been issued.
