On Monday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors once again refused to turn over materials related to the 2020 General election requested by Arizona Senate auditors. The supervisors held a press conference in which they announced that they had delivered a letter to Senate President Karen Fann, but not before each of them took turns complaining about the audit, the auditors, and the Senate.

The supervisors called once again for an end to the audit which includes a hand recount and review of the ballots as well as an inspection of the voting machines. Senators hope that with an audit of the election, which many people say was grossly mismanaged, they can identify gaps in the election process that future legislation could cure in an effort to avoid a repeat.

“It’s time to end this. For the good of the Senate, for the good of the Country and for the good of the Democratic institutions that define us as Americans,” the supervisors and the other elected officials said in a letter to Fann.

Despite the supervisors demands, it is unlikely Fann will move to end the audit before auditors complete their assigned tasks.

Fann had invited the supervisors to join her and other senators in a discussion in order to end the standoff. However, the supervisors rejected her overture. That meeting, according to Fann, will proceed with or without the supervisors or their counsel.
